The Arabic root s-b means to grow forth or to rise, especially in relation to a star. The association of Sabian with star watcher or star worshipper is significant for astrological practice. I appreciate that the Sabians have roots in Jewish, Islamic & Christian mystical traditions. Others have suggested that Sabian has a connection with Shiva and thus Hinduism. Given that astrology is practiced in all cultures, the word Sabian links spiritual, mystical and earth based knowledge across many traditions.
