At first glance, it is not obvious why Salacia is asking to speak. Salacia's collective transits of the moment include a t-square with Vesta rx in Cancer & Pholus in Capricorn and a quincunx to Juno in Virgo.
The physical details of this trans-Neptunian being are fascinating in and of themselves. Salacia is further out than Pluto, binary with Actaea and significant in size. Salacia's diameter is similar to that of Ceres, and Actaea is about 1/3 that size. Binary systems orbit each other, meaning they are inherently relational. Salacia's surface is also darker than most TNOs.
According to Eric Francis of Planet Waves, Salacia is associated with intelligence and standing out, relating to the word salient. So what is standing out about Salacia right now?
Saturn is forefront, stationing direct in Pisces, which is associated with Neptune in modern astrology. According to Greek mythology, Salacia was asked by a dolphin to be a consort of Poseidon. Perhaps this makes Salacia a thoughtful guide for Neptune. It's no wonder that Salacia wants to speak, given the prominence of Saturn at the moment. Saturn in Pisces carries us to Neptune retrograde in Pisces. A retrograde Neptune carries us to Pluto, methodically working its way through the end of Capricorn, asking us to confront all that is rotten in our structures and systems.
What wise guidance might Salacia offer us in the deeply troubling collective waters that we find ourselves in? We are embroiled in strife, multiple wars fought in abeyance of international law and environmental collapse in the form of species extinction, climate change, earthquakes, hurricanes and fires.
Salacia exudes sensitivity and psychic perception, offers soothing love in times of crisis and is the one who will bring a non-violent, humanitarian response (from astrologicaldepth.com). Poet Dylan Thomas and philosopher Hannah Arendt are resonant with Salacia.
Salacia speaks to us in whispers that reverberate throughout our systems...remember the flow of love is ever-present, as constant as breath. And even when the breathing stops, there is only a pause before another being inhales. We do not breathe in vain for we breathe in honor of one another. We breathe in honor of the oak tree who expresses oxygen. We breathe because that is how we are made. In our own unmaking we forget that we are intermediaries, conduits, inter-beings. We are also inherently relational.
If we return to Salacia retrograde in Aries' t-square with Vesta rx in Cancer & Pholus in Capricorn, and the quincunx to Juno in Virgo, we might imagine a turning toward our instinctive capacity to nurture in order to address the unleashed collective bloodshed. Meanwhile, our vigilant attention to relationship may benefit from sensitivity and compassion.
